my entire recording studio at the the time of this posting

For those (very few) of you who haven’t the slightest idea of who I am, if you are a fan of house music, you might remember the production duo I was a part of called Monkey Bars. We recorded an album and some singles for Subliminal Records as well as a slew of other tracks and remixes for labels such as OM, Moonshine, Aquarius, Nettwerk, Vanguard and a bunch of others, including our very own Clover Club Recordings. At the end of 2004 I found myself kinda burnt on house music production and left Monkey Bars in the able hands of my compadre, Gabriel D Vine. Before that, my main focus was playing jazz sax. I studied and lived in and around NYC and toured with bands such as the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra and Half Pint. There’s so much more I could go on about regarding my musical background, but I’ll get into more of that later on. Anyhow, a few months ago, my girlfriend and I went to see the great inspirational speaker, Wayne Dyer and he spoke a lot about not dying with your “music” still inside of you, and that statement made me a bit uncomfortable, as I realized that I was now ready to reconnect with the “music” inside of me- which happened to actually be music. Anyhow, you and I are still getting to know eachother, so I don’t assume that you care to know my entire life story at this point. The point is, I’m back, and I’d like to use this space to share all of my adventures in this exciting process of making the sounds in my ears and more importantly, my heart, come to life. The picture you see at the top of this post is my entire studio at the moment. Basically, everything you hear comes from my laptop computer- the same computer I’m typing this post from. Today, with the engineering expertise of my former Monkey Bars comrade Gabriel D Vine, I completed my first track as Bloompocket entitled “I’ll Show You.” I have to say, I am so grateful for how this first Bloompocket track turned out. To make a long story short, think house music + bebop + HEAVY drums + eighties funk + soul + spirit. If you haven’t done so already, please pay (yet another) visit to my painfully new MySpace profile at http://www.myspace.com/bloompocket and check it out. I’d love to hear from anyone who’d like to be heard, so please keep in touch, as I will be updating this site as much as I can with more details of my latest and greatest adventures, and who knows, maybe some of my posts will even be kinda funny! But for now, I’m just saying hello again- we’ll talk soon. With love from Marina Del Rey, Doron

Even though I am only a consumer, and not a producer of house music, I can totally relate to the “burnt out” feeling that comes from being part of the community for over a decade… but after listening to “I’ll Show You” on your MySpace page, i have to say that it’s a GOOD thing (both for you and for others) that you have returned to house production. Clearly, you, like me, have house music coursing through your veins. When the music is that much a part of you you are, it’s practically impossible to deny it. It always feels like home, no matter how long you’ve been gone. “I’ll SHow You” is an excellent piece of work. I especially love the percussion. Can’t wait to dance to it, hearing it over a big system instead of my laptop’s tiny speakers. Bravo. -Amy Ricketts
