that’s me
I can’t tell you how frickin’ rad it is to be back making music again after my hiatus of over 3 years. With this first foray back into the world of making church music for drug addicts and sexual deviants (otherwise known as “House music”), I wanted to do something that wouldn’t involve hiring any live musicians or special equipment or farm animals or anything like that.
While I wasn’t able to entirely avoid the need for farm animals, I was able to come up with something using nothing more than the contents of my MacBook Pro, a
controller keyboard, and an Apogee Duet breakout box. This song basically started out as a test run for my new notebook-based studio, but I feel like it blossomed into something much more meaningful to me than what I had originally intended.
The most thrilling part of this process was the ability to “road test” the track on a ginormous JBL club system. I know that this technique is probably well known to many of you producer-types out there, but until recently it had never occurred to me to rent out a rehearsal room containing a large subwoofer-laden club system tuned for dance music. I also brought along my Genelec studio monitors to make sure that the mix would sound kosher outside of the club. Referencing my mix against some great mixes of a similar style, me and my special guest engineering partner Gabriel D Vine were able to get results that we were really thrilled with.

that’s Gabriel
Having the club system there at our disposal was such a blessing, as we were able to make sure that our mix would measure up in the club, where the music has no choice but to physically beat dancers into submission.
Anyhow, before I really start boring you all to tears, let me simply point you to

As for the next project, it promises to be much more involved, as I’ll be doing a full song with lyrics and live musicians and all that stuff, but I’ll save all of that for next time.
