Track #2 in Progress: "All Around Us"

Posted April 8th, 2008 by Bloompocket
So yes, my second track as “Bloompocket” is well under way. Of course, if it were up to me, I’d be on my 12th track. You see, despite the power and prestige that come with uploading one track onto a MySpace Music profile, I still have this thing called the “day job” which definitely changes up the spare-time-to-noodle-in-the-studio factor. However, the upside is that because there is a limit to my time, the time spent composing and producing is incredibly inspired and focused. Basically, it’s like the antithesis of writer’s block - in my case, it more like musical blue-balls. However, it all seems to be paying off, as I already have some serious interest in the commercial release of my first single (”I’ll Show You“) and am in the fortunate position of mulling over a few different possibilities at the moment(!!).

As happy as I am about the first track, I have to say that with production #2, I’ll be taking things to a whole new level. The track is entitled “All Around Us” and it’s a full-on song with words n’stuff that will feature some incredibly talented live musicians. The chorus for the song has been in my mind for well over a year, as it was inspired by my lovely girlfriend, Agatha. Yes, I am not ashamed to admit that I am madly in love, and have abandoned any efforts to hide the fact that this exquisite woman reduces me to a love-song-sappy pulp (that’s a good thing, by the way!). The song’s actually about a bit more than just person-to-person love though- you’ll just have to wait and hear…

With the chorus already existing, the rest of the song wrote itself very quickly, and I spent much time notating out the melody and harmony using Sibelius music notation software as well as recording some demos to help my vocalist get a better idea of how the somewhat-complex words and melody work together. I even made him a demo with ME singing, and it is so awful that I must devote the rest of my living days to ensure that this wretched piece of audio never sees the light of day. And no, I’m not just being modest about my singing, it really is horrideous (yes, that is a new word I just created). I mean, Simon Cowell wouldn’t just tell me I sucked. I believe that were I to audition for American Idol, I would be hog-tied and removed from the building by armed security personnel and considered a biohazard.

Now, if you wanna hear some singing, here’s the man I’ve been blessed to collaborate with on this next track- ladies and gents, allow me to introduce you to Mr. Daryl Darden! Here’s a video of him doing a bit of a George Benson thing on the classic ballad, “This Masquerade.”
Just imagine that voice and that guitar working together over a tight and pumpin’ house groove with heavenly melodies and harmonies, and I think we’ve got something good, don’t you? (not that I’m biased or anything)

Anyhow, I’ve blabbed on long enough for one day, but I just wanted to keep everyone posted on what’s happening over here music-making-wise, I’m sure there will be more updates on this track very shortly.

In the meantime, I thank everyone for their support and hope that my music or even this little blog can brighten up yer day just a little bit (if not a lot!).

With love from Marina Del Rey,

Doron
