This morning a good friend forwarded me a link to a news story by a ‘trend forecaster, renowned for being accurate in the past.’ At the bottom of the article was a list of the various news organizations who give great credence to the insights and predictions of this man.

To give a small taste of what was forecast for our future:
“It’s going to be a picture the likes of which Americans are not going to be used to. It’s going to come as a shock and with it, there’s going to be a lot of crime. And the crime is going to be a lot worse than it was before because in the last 1929 Depression, people’s minds weren’t wrecked on all these modern drugs – over-the-counter drugs, or crystal meth or whatever it might be. So, you have a huge underclass of very desperate people with their minds chemically blown beyond anybody’s comprehension.”

Below is my response to the article, which my compadre found very inspiring and day-brightening, so I thought I’d share it here:

This is CRAP! Ha ha, but seriously, I am much more optimistic. I see the opposite happening. All of the references cited as giving the author of these predictions credibility have one thing in common- they are in the business of mass-marketing fear and a mentality of scarcity to encourage people to purchase, hoard, drown themselves in work and stress, and remain transfixed to their CNN God!

Just as an alcoholic or a drug addict must hit a bottom before he makes the decision to make take responsibility for making his life a good one, I believe that our world is having a similar experience, hitting bottom with outdated concepts such as war, judgment, scarcity, and the “every man for himself” and “me first” mentalities. Remember, for every act of evil there are a million acts of kindness. The global level of consciousness is rising slowly, but surely, from where it used to be. If you’ll recall, the same man who would have been a slave 150 years ago is now our President, so clearly we’re moving in the right direction.

Additionally, it has been my experience that what I focus on has a way of showing up in my life, so if I can focus on joyous, loving, and energizing thoughts, that is what I will experience in my life, and that experience is extremely contagious. This law of attraction is finding its way into our mass culture along with things such as Yoga, meditation, and living in the present moment (Eckhart Tolle’s book A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purposehas been EXTENSIVELY promoted by Oprah Winfrey- she even gave it a 10-week online class and called it “the most exciting thing I’ve ever done in my life.”).

If the world does somehow come to a man-made end (very unlikely), it will be due to nothing more than our own pessimism and “intellect.” The world does not need a new political policy or an economic boost- those are merely symptoms of the new higher consciousness that we are acquiring as a human race. I believe that it comes down to finding our bliss as individuals by being honest with ourselves and helping others, and then the rest of the world will take care of itself.

(Whew! Thanks for inspiring me with that!)
